President Rodrigo Duterte has fulfilled his promise of a Hong Kong vacation for the female soldiers who fought in Marawi City. In a press conference Tuesday (October 31) after arriving from Japan, Duterte joked that the female soldiers have gone ahead of him to Hong Kong.

“Nag-asawa na nga ang iba pagbalik eh,” he said.

Duterte said the airfare of the female soldiers were shouldered by Cebu Pacific after it learned of his plan to treat them to a vacation abroad. Cebu Pacific is owned and controlled by the Gokongwei family.

Because of Cebu Pacific’s generosity, Duterte said he only had to spend for the female soldiers’ accommodation and pocket money. Duterte announced his plan to fly the female soldiers to Hong Kong during a visit to Marawi City while the conflict was going on a few months back.

Aside from flying the female soldiers to Hong Kong, Duterte brought 17 battallion commanders instrumental in liberating Marawi City to Japan, where he just went on an official visit.

“I just brought them to unwind. At least may ano… may ano sila, panahon mag sight-seeing,” he said.
